Mutual Funds+
  • Mutual Fund is a trust that collects money from a number of investors, who share a common investment objective. Then, it invests the money in equities, bonds, money market instruments and/or other securities. Each investor owns units, which represent a portion of the holdings of the fund.
  • Types of Mutual Funds
    • Equity or Growth Funds:These invest predominantly in equities i.e. shares of companies with a primary objective of wealth creation or capital appreciation.
    • Income or Bond or Fixed Income Funds:These invest in Fixed Income Securities, like Government Securities or Bonds, Commercial Papers and Debentures, Bank Certificates of Deposits and Money Market instruments like Treasury Bills, Commercial Paper, etc. which are relatively safer investments and are suitable for Income Generation.

Systematic Investment Plan (SIP)+
  • Systematic Investment Plans, called SIP, help you create wealth over the long term through small and periodic investments. By making small, disciplined savings in mutual fund schemes over a period of time, these plans bring you closer to realising your financial goals.
  • Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), enables a regular investment into a scheme, much like a bank recurring deposit. The essence of SIPs is that when the markets fall investors automatically acquire more units. Likewise, they acquire lesser units when the market rises. This means that you buy less when the price is high whereas you buy more the price is low. Hence the average cost per unit drops down over a period.
  • Systematic Investing means:
    • Investing a fixed amount
    • Investing for a continuous period
    • Investing at regular intervals
  • Why SIP?
    • It is a disciplined way of saving.
    • You can start small, with investments as low as Rs. 500 per month.
    • Diversification reduces the risk of ‘timing the market’.
    • It puts the power of compounding to work for you.
